The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 7 - Alaska is recruiting students to participate in the Department of the Interior Pathways Career/Indefinite Internship Program. The Department of the Interior Internship Program (Pathways) is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. To be eligible, applicants must be students enrolled or accepted for enrollment at least half-time in an accredited educational institution (i.e., high school/college/university/vocational school) and be in good academic standing.
Students who successfully complete the program and meet all applicable internship program requirements may be eligible for conversion to a term or permanent job in the civil service. Please note that eligibility for conversion does not guarantee the intern will be converted.
To be eligible for conversion, interns must: Be a US citizen; complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquires through the Internship program; complete degree or certificate program; meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted; meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement; perform their job successfully; and receive a favorable recommendation for conversion from their supervisor.

As a Student Trainee (Physical Science-Hydrology), you will:
Determine location of and then maintain automated water quality stations in Arctic and subarctic environments
Calibrate, program, and download data from automated water quality multi-parameter meters
Use automated instruments, published techniques, and agency guidelines to collect hydrologic data in remote areas
Check field measurements and equipment calibration information and enter information into appropriate Excel spreadsheets/databases
Condense collected information into peer reviewed reports, summaries, posters and presentations

For the GS-07 level
Havecompleted one full academic year of graduate-level education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in a field that is closely related to the duties of this position. Examples of such fields of study include physical or natural science or engineering. One year of full-time graduate education (18 semester hours) is considered an academic year of graduate study. Please note: you must provide copies of your unofficial or official transcripts.
OR
Have met the Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) qualification. SAA is defined as: 1) a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last 2 years of undergraduate study; 2) GPA 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 for all courses in your major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two years; 3) rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision; OR 4) membership in a national honor society (other than freshman honor societies). For the GS-09 Level
Have completed two years of graduate-level education leading to a master's degree, or a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a field that is closely related to the duties of this position. This position has a positive education requirement for conversion. The required education must lead to a degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainee will participate in the Intern program. The degree of specialization in this field must satisfy, on graduation, the specific requirements in the qualification standard for the position. Prefered degrees may include Physical Science, Natural Science, Engineering, Hydrology, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position.
